There is no loyalty in a jungle when animals are in survival mode. The hunter can become the hunted when personal gain is at stake. Fearful animals become non-interfering bystanders, immobilized by self-preservation. Some animals fly the scene in search of less precarious locations, abandoning rather than aiding those around them. So, too, society can operate like a jungle. Some people may look out for only themselves. They may watch but not interfere in bad situations. They may even leave uncomfortable situations, deserting those in need. Despite systems to organize our civilization, we are still animals surviving in the wild. Our differentiation from animals comes in the moments we choose to help one another.
